ode to brunswick

an historical mural project

illustration // typography // mural concept // merchandise design // print // digital //

The aim of this project was to create a mural for RMIT that reflected the local community and that drew inspiration from a particular era of design history. I chose the Art Deco era, with a particular focus on French poster designers, such as Loupot and A.M. Cassandre. The local community I chose was Brunswick, a suburb in the Inner North of Melbourne, known for it’s trendy cafés, bars and general laid-back vibe. I poked fun at the hipster stereotype, quite common in Brunswick. I created the airbrush effect digitally using Photoshop, and would love to explore this style further in the future. The figure was created in Illustrator, and the font is a historical font that I discovered in the research.
